You may think it a little odd that Pantone choose a ‘colour of the year’. I mean, aren’t they supposed to love all of the colours equally, without favourites?
The fashion, home furnishings, packaging and graphics that you may have been drawn to over past years might have been because of Pantone’s influence on the industries. For more information on how Pantone choose their colour, visit their site here.
This year, the award goes to…Living Coral 16-1546. Pantone have chosen this vibrant yet warm shade for 2019, because “it is not only a colour found in our natural surroundings but it also holds a strong presence on social media, representing the fusion of modern life” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Institute.
For wedding florals, this is fantastic news. Coral charm peonies, vuvuzela roses, coral dinner plate dahlias, ranunculus, parrot tulips, Icelandic poppies…the list goes on. Pantone were so right about coral being abundant in nature. What’s more, coral totally steals the show when teamed with creams and whites, but looks sumptuous and tropical when teamed with reds and pinks. What’s not to like?!
